Transferring the web site's domain name affects two different services, web site access and email. Before moving an existing web site to our servers, you should investigate how each one of these services is set up.

Web Site Service

You should check any special requirements the site may have (e.g. CGI scripting, databases etc). Generally, most web sites will run on our servers. If there are special requirements, you should verify they are supported by us by viewing the supported software pages, or you can contact us.

Email Service

Some people do not realise that when they transfer a domain to us for web site hosting, they also affect email service. If you don't take this into account before a domain is transferred, you can break the email setup, and you can lose email. You have two options that will both ensure email is not lost.

Configure email using Google Apps so that it matches how it is currently set up for the domain. If you need to set up POP or IMAP mailboxes, you will need to add the settings to your email client.

Keep the email service with the existing host, and only transfer the web service to us. To do this, instead of transferring the domain, you will need to contact the current host and ask them to split up the services.
